On the 17th and the 18th of Octobre 2024, the Conseil d’État received a delegation from the Belgian Council of State for a bilateral seminar.
During those days, three topics were discussed:
- The professional ethics of the members of the Conseil d’État;
- The right to protest and the oversight of the administrative judge;
- Does the possibility for the administrative judge to issue injunctions to the administration risk turning them into administrators?
This event underlines the importance granted to the Franco-Belgian cooperation which manifests itself through regular bilateral seminars and study visits by French and Belgian counselors within the counterpart institution.
Created in 1946, the Belgian Council of State, like the Conseil d’État, acts both as a legal advisor and a supreme court. It has the power to annul or suspend administrative acts that are against the applicable rule of law. It can issue rulings or orders on petitions, and it also provides advisory opinions on legislative and regulatory matters.
